This (Hydesville) Girl Will

Year 9 and 10 girls were inspired into a future career in sport by England Rugby World Cup winner, Maggie Alphonsi, at an event hosted by the University of Wolverhampton.
Hydesville joined a wider group of female pupils from schools across the Black Country at ‘This Girl Will’ which was designed to inspire girls to play, lead and study sport as well as raise aspirations for their sporting careers.
The day kicked off with an inspirational address by Maggie Alphonsi MBE, and was followed by tailored leadership sessions designed to help the girls action plan for their careers. The group also heard motivational sport stories from some of our international sport scholars, female sport professionals and guest speakers from elite sport.
Miss Danni Fairbrother, PE Teacher, said: “Sports players like Maggie Alphonsi are making great progress in raising the profile of female sport so it was great to hear and be inspired by her experiences. Our pupils got a lot out of the day; and have returned to school with a renewed enthusiasm to join sports clubs and take part in sports they’ve not tried before.”
