Year 2 get closer to nature

Pupils in Year 2 had a fantastic day at Sandwell Valley last week.
The trip helped the children improve their knowledge and understanding about living things and their habitats.
It was a busy day, with the morning spent pond dipping. Pupils were amazed to find more than 18 different species of pond animals including a male newt, diving beetles and water boatman. They loved dipping their net in the water and using the magnifying glasses to look up close at the creatures.
During the afternoon, they looked at food chains and discussed how animals depend on each other. The children even got a chance to take part in a bit of bird spotting on the wetland habitat where they were excited to spot a heron.
