Prep School

Welcome to the Prep School

Our Prep School is a place where learning comes to life.

Our pupils are an integral part of the Hydesville family and they strive to reach their full potential, be it in the fields of academia, art, music, sport or creativity.

Talented, committed teachers, with class sizes significantly smaller than other establishments, ensure our family-feel school puts each child at the centre. Learning is personalised and our commitment to providing a rounded education ensures our pupils fulfil and exceed their potential.

What do we offer?

The Hydesville Pathway Programme

In the Prep School, the programme is divided into four stages: Exploration, Strong Core, Expansion, and Senior Ready.

Exploration Phase

During the Exploration Phase, your child will begin their love of learning.

Strong Core Phase

Our strategy in the Strong Core Phase is to assist and motivate pupils to lay solid foundations for their learning and growth. We use a thematic and cross-curricular teaching strategy that aids in pupils' retention of information and abilities.

Expansion Phase

In the Expansion Phase, we anticipate that pupils will exhibit greater independence, focus, and concentration in order realise their full potential by Year 6. Here we build on core skills together with the already established 11+ curriculum, and teach our pupils to be more resilient and organised so they can rise to the challenges and demands they later face.

Senior Ready

The last phase emphasises a more customised instruction for every pupil to help them thrive in a senior school, which is appropriate and fits their needs. The Year 6 Hydesville Challenge programme and final stage of the 11+ preparation are tools that assist pupils in lifelong learning.

Whatever phase your child embarks on the Hydesville Pathway Programme, we will ensure they strive every day to do well and to become the best they can be.
Hydesville integrates individual academic attainment with a caring nurturing environment. They have good academic outcomes and very friendly, approachable staff.

Exploring passions

At Hydesville Tower School, we recognise the importance of a holistic education that extends beyond the classroom. Our Prep School offers a vibrant array of extra-curricular activities designed to enrich the learning experience and cater to various interests and talents. From sports clubs to arts and crafts, music, and academic pursuits, our diverse range of activities provides opportunities for personal development, teamwork, and fun.

We encourage our pupils to explore their passions, fostering a well-rounded and balanced approach to education that extends into their wider school life. Through engaging and dynamic extra-curricular offerings, we aim to inspire a love for learning and a sense of accomplishment among our Prep School pupils.

Pastoral Care

Support in a warm and friendly environment

Mrs. Chand, Deputy Head, leads pastoral care, collaborating with class teachers to provide warm and personable assistance for the best pupil care. Our friendly and proud school fosters close teacher-pupil relationships, ensuring quick recognition of any behavioural changes. We take a zero-tolerance approach to bullying, promoting transparency and offering established channels for pupil concerns.

Guided by our values of Ambition, Opportunity, and Respect, our nurturing environment encourages pupils to appreciate each other, fostering confidence and thriving in all aspects of school life.

Wraparound care

Before and After School Club

We understand the demands of modern family life, and that's why we offer comprehensive wraparound care services for our Prep School pupils.

  • Before School Club: From 7:30 am to the start of the school day

  • After School Club: From the end of the school day to 6:00 pm

These clubs not only assist working parents by offering before and after-school provision but also provide a range of activities and care to enhance the overall well-being of our Prep School pupils. Families can conveniently book and manage their Before and After School Club sessions through our parent app, Cognita Connect.

Trips & Visits

Enriching trips for self-confidence and independence

In the Prep School, we believe in providing pupils with a range of trips to broaden their experiences. We understand the importance of hands-on learning and exposure to different environments and cultures. That is why we offer a diverse selection of trips that cater to various interests and learning objectives.

From trips to residentials, our aim is to expand pupils’ horizons and help them develop a wider learning perspective. Whether it is exploring nature, visiting historical landmarks, or immersing in different cultures, our trips are designed to enrich pupils’ education and foster personal growth. We offer one trip per term which is often linked to an area of learning.

Examples of enrichment trips include:

The role and expectations of homework

It is recognised that homework is an important part of a pupil’s education and useful for consolidation and extension of work covered in class, as well as preparation for the next steps to be taken by the child. Homework strengthens the educational partnership between the teacher and the pupil and provides parents with an opportunity to share and support their child’s learning. It is also a means by which progress can be monitored. Homework promotes self-discipline and independent study.
