No fake news for Hydesville pupils

Year 7 pupils have been involved in the BBC School News Report this week, which has helped them to become more familiar with a range of non-fiction texts as well as developing their knowledge and understanding of controversial issues in current affairs.

Identifying and responding to ‘Fake News’ items has been an important focus for us this year, questioning the reliability of sources and understanding how reporters gather and present their stories without bias.

On Tuesday, Sukhi Nagra from the BBC visited Hydesville and gave pupils tips and advice about framing and editing their work. Our intrepid reporters then practised their interview skills by asking lots of questions about what it was like to work for the BBC.

This is our first year taking part in the project and we hope to develop this even more next year where older pupils will be able to mentor younger pupils in gathering and reporting the news.

And now… back to the studio!
