Bullying workshop proves hit with Year 8

Pupils in Year 8 took part in a drama workshop to broaden their understanding of bullying and help them identify safe strategies if they or anyone they know is experiencing bullying.

The interactive ‘Bully for you’ workshop was led by Loudmouth theatre in education company who used trained actors to act out several scenes covering many different forms of bullying, including cyberbullying, homophobic bullying and sexual/sexist bullying. In between each scene pupils were encouraged to discuss and analyse what had happened, to help them understand the different scenarios and how to deal with issues raised in them.

The pupils all learnt lots and really enjoyed the hands-on approach – everyone was encouraged to get involved and play a key part in the session.

Mrs Parker oversaw the workshop.  She said:   “The actors and I were really pleased with our pupils throughout the workshop.  It was encouraging that the group already knew a lot – from which websites to go to for help to the safeguarding hierarchy within the school – and we were impressed with their knowledge and maturity. They did us proud!”
