The Daily Routine
Our daily routine looks like this:
The children will arrive between 8.45am and 9.00 am. They will be greeted by a member of staff, The children bring in a healthy snack with them everyday they will be asked to place this in the storage box provided. Other members of staff will be available to help the children choose which activity they wish to play with.
9.15 am / 1.15 pm Welcome and register
Registration takes place within room 1 where we all say good morning and answer the register. After registration the children take part in an adult led group session - discussion of the weather.
9.30 am - 10:15am Small group time
The children will move around the playrooms freely, members of staff will be on hand to play with the children, or to read them a story. During this time the children will be asked to participate in a more structured activity (covering one of the 6 learning areas) with their key worker (green, blue and red group - please note groups are not based on ability). Some of these activities will be planned for outside in order that children gain the benefit of learning in the outdoor environment. These activities could be : number, shape, colour recogintion activities, name writing, pencil control activities, information technology, jigsaws, matching objects, sorting, and many more.
10.15am - 10:45 am Outside play and drink time
The children are served milk, juice or water. The children are given lots of opportunities to play with a variety of outside toys and equipment, chalking, drawing, sand play, large equipment and many more activities available.
It is an opportunity to develop social skills, turn-taking in conversation and to talk about what they have achieved and to generally have a chat with friends.
If the weather is very bad the children will stay inside and play circle games, or participate in music/movement. however this is very rarely as children should be able to experience ALL weather conditions, having appropriate clothing on when necessary - waterproofs, wellington boots, hats, scarfs, gloves, sun hat, sun cream.
10.45 am / 11:30m Work / group time
At this time key workers share with the children what is on offer in each area of provision. This is changed daily. Children plan where they will work and what they will do. All areas are usually available for work time, especially the outdoors. On occassions throughout the week this is sometimes "circle time" this is a time for children to gather together to share their personal feelings and ideas about anything that is significant to them (news, stories, singing a song, or describing their sound table object.) By showing children that their opinions count, encouraging them to safely express feelings and make real choices we enhance self-esteem more effectively than a system of external rewards.
Also within this session we prepare the children ready for reception by introducing RWI - "Read Write Inc" "This is a fully integrated reading and writing programme, in which is structured and based on synthetic phonics. Synthetic phonics is simply the ability to convert a letter or letter group into sounds that are then blended together into a word. These words are embedded in lovely stories so children can read books independently."
Dance is introduced to the children also from Nursery age - here we have an external dance teacher come into the setting and take Nursery through basic moves, during march / april the children are able to go for the level 1 dance examination (please note this exam is not compulsary)
11.10 am Tidy up time
Here the children are encouraged to learn the skill of tidying up. All work areas are carefully labelled so that the children can do this independently. Everyone is encouraged to help.
11:20 am Toilet and hand washing time
A member of staff will supervise both the girls and the boys of the nursery to make sure they wash their hands before going to dinner.
11:30am - 1:15pm Lunch time and outdoor play
The nursery children are led over to the dining room where we all sit together at the table and have our lunch using cutlery, before we begin to eat we all say a grace.
Nutritionally balanced meals are prepared daily on the premises using only fresh produce, the menu's are displayed each week. Here at Hydesville we cater for special diets e.g. (culture, religion, vegetarians and allergies). Mealtimes are supervised by Nursery staff. As every aspect of your Child's care this provides opportunity for social interaction between children and staff.
Opportunities for drinks can be provided throughout the day.
After eating our dinner the nursery children are taken into the mobile classroom by our luchtime supervisor Mrs S Harvey to watch a video to allow them to digest their dinner. After a short period of time the children are then taken out to play on the playground with a selection of outdoor toys and equipment.
1:30pm - 2:00pm
During the afternoon session we plan and carry out more free play activities, play dough, painting, chalking, drawing, craft making, water and sand play, imaginative play area and many more fun activities. Twice a week during this session we also participate in singing with the reception class, here the children learn new songs to sing to parents within assembly and for events throughout the year (Easter hat parade, pancake day, summer sing a long, Christmas and many more)
2:00pm - 2:30pm
At tidy up time the children are encouraged to tidy up independently with little staff support, after all the tidying we will have a group discussion where the children are encouraged to chat about what they have been doing during the session, or sing a selection of rhymes.
The children are then encouraged to get their own coats, blazers, hats, scarfs on before getting their snack, their snack will be of a healthy and nutritious nature reflecting different cultures, before taking it outside to eat. (these are provided from home.)
2:30pm - 2:45pm
This session is for the children to relax and enjoy, during this time the children are able to go to the toilet before our last session starts. Also within this time the children are able to choose and read books independently, play with jigsaws, or participate in action songs.
2:45 pm - 3:10pm
This is an adult led session which ranges from story time, circle time, free play session or outside equipment (weather permitting).
3:10pm - 3:20pm
At this time the children all find and put on their coats, blazers, school hats and collect their school bags before sitting down for a group discussion about their time at Nursery today.
3:20pm - 3:25pm
Here we all come together in room 1 where we say a prayer and good afternoon to all staff and children before being called to go home.
