Sociology GCSE
Studying Sociology will help pupils to:
Develop an understanding of how individuals behave in organizations, families and communities and the ways in which these groups work within wider social, political and economic contexts. Pupils are encouraged to develop analytical skills in assessing a range of data and seek scientific verification of ideas and assumptions.
Aim
To give pupils a wider understanding of society and of how issues of class, gender, age and ethnicity affect an individuals experiences.
Structure
KS4 - Pupils study a number of key issues important to society such as family life, criminal behaviour, power and politics. Assessment is made through three written exams, one taken at the end of Yr 10 and the other two at the end of Yr 11. Pupils are encouraged to undertake individual research into key areas to enhance their individual development.
Careers and Higher Education
Sociology GCSE is an excellent preparation for Sociology AS and A2 level at 16+. It offers preparation for careers such as journalism, human resources, medicine, business management and social work.
Trips and Educational visits
Pupils visit the Palace of Westminster and for a guided tour of the House of Commons and House of Laws. Also they participate in a workshop lead by the Educational Services team.
