Science
Science is taught on a weekly basis throughout the Junior school. Children are encouraged to develop their investigative skills and scientific reasoning. Lessons are a mixture of pratical and written work.
Year 3
Children begin by studying teeth and healthy eating, drawing on their own experiences. They also look at materials, magnets and springs, rocks, helping plants grow well and light and shadows. Each topic has both practical and written elements to reinforce teaching.
Year 4
Science is a very practical subject and pupils carry out many experiments and investigations. The topics they cover are; Moving and Growing, Electricity, Forces, Habitats, and States of Materials.
Year 5
The topics covered include: Keeping Healthy, Life Cycles, Gases Around Us, Changing State; Earth, Sun and Moon and Changing Sounds. Children have the opportunity to develop investigative skills, scientific reasoning and knowledge.

Year 6
In Year 6 the teaching and learning focus is on the practical application of knowledge and solving of problems through investigative and experimental procedure. The children develop their skills in observation, recording and interpretation of information. They are encouraged to use their scientific knowledge to hypothesise and draw conclusions. They look at food webs, adaptation, plants and their life cycles, Earth, Sun and Moon and electricity; as well as looking at experimental procedure and planning and running investigations.
