Religious Studies
Studying Religious Studies will help pupils to;
Develop a broad knowledge and understanding of the six major world religions. It will also help them to develop their own personal, spiritual and moral awareness.
Aim: To enable each pupil to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes for them to become independent learners and take a full and empathetic role in our society.
Structure:
KS3
All year 7s, 8s and 9s pupils have two periods of RS a week. RS is multi-faith and the content of all the courses covers the big six world religions.
KS4
Pupils opt to choose RS at this stage. They have the opportunity to study Christianity and Sikhism.
Careers and Higher Education
In a multi-faith, multi-cultural society RS is of importance for all pupils who will be working and living with people who hold many varying beliefs which affect their lives on a day-to-day basis.
Trips and Educational Visits
Year 7 make an annual visit to Lichfield cathedral as part of their work on religious buildings.
Year 8 make an annual visit to the Orthodox Hebrew Synagogue.
GCSE groups have a bi-annual visit to Walsingham. In year 11 they visit Beth Shalom, the Holocaust memorial centre as well as various local churches and Gurdwaras.
Trips abroad have included a visit to Rome in 2008 and Normandy in 2009.
