Religious Education

 

Religious Education takes place in weekly lessons in each year group. In addidtion to this assemblies will have a religious or moral theme and daily worship takes place within assemblies. Other religious events include the carol service in the Autumn term.

Year 3

Year 3 children study God's rules and the life of Moses. at Christmas they focus on 'Why do Christians give gifts at Christmas?' They begin to look at Jesus's teaching and how this can affect their lives, in particular the 'Sermon on the mount'. Pupils also study Jesus's disciples and what discplship means. During year 3 they begin an introduction to Sikhism.

Year 4

Pupils enjoy learning about stories from the Old Testament and discuss the morals and meaning behind they stories. They then consider how they can apply these to their own lives. During the latter part of the Autumn term they look at the Christmas story with fresh eyes, considering the story from the view point of others present at the time. Children also study the festival of Divali and what this means to both Sikhs and Hindus. Finally they study Jesus and his miracles looking at each iracle in turn and what it shows about the power of God.

Year 5

Pupils experience stories and practices from different religions and develop an understanding of how some religions work. They also learn about 'Special People' from various religions throughout history and the positive impact they have had on modern lives.

Year 6

The children again experience stories and practices from different religions, both of the ancient world and from current everyday beliefs. They build on knowledge they gained in year 5 and look at a wider variety of religions. They develop an understanding of how some religions work and what it involves to belong to these religions
