RS News

Year 10 RS GCSE group made their annual visit to the number one place of pilgrimage in Britain, Walsingham. They took part in many of the activities real pilgrims would do including a well sprinkling service; walking the Holy Mile (although not barefoot as their predecessors) to see the Roman Catholic National Shrine; and visiting the Abbey and the original site of the Holy House, said to be a replica of Mary’s house in Nazareth. They also walked around some of the stations of the cross to be found around the shrine’s grounds and in the evening witnessed a candle-lit procession of Christians. After staying the night in one of the pilgrim hostels, the following morning they toured four of the churches in the village, which included examples from all three main Christian types: Roman Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox.  All very different in architectural style. The visit was rounded off with an illuminating meeting with the local orthodox priest in the Shrine Church itself. Mr Baptist was again our gallant driver and deserves our heartfelt thanks.
