Mathematics Department
Aim:
To develop the Mathematical skills gained in KS2 by studying topics in further detail using mental, written and computer techniques. Pupils will study Number and Algebra; Shape, Space and Measures, and Handling Data and they will learn the following skills - numeracy, logical thinking, problem-solving techniques and how to work independently.
Structure:
KS3 - Maths is split into three main areas
- Number and Algebra
- Space, Shape and Measures
- Handling Data
KS4
Pupils will follow the OCR Specification A for GCSE. There are two levels of entry: Foundation and Higher. The grades range from G to C at Foundation level and D to A* at a Higher level. At the end of the course there are two written papers lasting two hours.
Careers and Higher Education
Most careers will require a minimum of grade C in Maths GCSE. GCSE Mathematics is a qualification that is required by most employers and is often needed for entry to further or higher education, and so it is an important subject to study.
Trips and Educational visits
Students take part in Junior, Intermediate and Team Mathematical Challenges. These are UK competitions in which over a million pupils test their Mathematical knowledge.
