Mathematics

In Mathematics, children are placed in groups according to their ability.  Children cover the following topics- Numbers and their Properties; Fractions, Decimals and Percentages; Calculations using the four number operations; Problem Solving; Measures; Shape and Space and Handling Data.

Each year group studies these topics, revisiting and building on current knowledge each year. Each topic is covered in greater depth as they travel up through the Junior school.

Teaching is varied to include practical work, problem solving skills and mental arithmetic.

Teaching in Year 6 is pupil driven and pupils are extended into the KS3 curriculum where necessary. Each year, they take part in a national competition called ' The Primary Maths Challenge' and Hydesville pupils are very successful.
