History is taught weekly in the Junior school and a variety of different eras are studied. Many trips, visits and activity days are undertaken as part of the history syllabus, which always enhance the pupil's understanding.

Year 3

In Year 3 children begin their journey through history by studying the Romans, looking at the people and their settlements. they then study the Anglo Saxons again learning how they used to live. Finally they learn about the Vikings, how they arrived and where they settled.

Year 4

In History year 4 children study the Tudors, including the lives of the monarchs and how ordinary Tudors lived. They then travel back in time to the the Egyptian civilization and in particular their beliefs about the afterlife. Finally they discover how World War Two began and the effects of war on families. In particular they look at war through the eyes of children, both in England and in other countries involved. 

Year 5

Pupils will investigate what life was like during different periods in history including; 'Children in Victorian Britain', 'Britain Since 1948', and 'Tudor Exploration'. They have considered how life has changed over time and the impact that the past has on modern life. Pupils also have the opportunity to experience history first hand through the use of artefacts and visiting historians.

Year 6

The teaching and learning of historical skills and knowledge takes place through the use of first-hand experiences and the practical use of workshops, resources and artefacts. Children are encouraged to make decisions about life in ancient cultures, particularly the Aztecs, use evidence and draw parallels with their own modern lives. They also look at the growth of youth culture since WW2 and study closely the career of the Beatles and the life of John Lennon. They study the history of the Aztecs and investigate recent British history, post WWII, and focus on characteristic features of the 1950s and subsequent decades.
