French
Every child at Hydesville from Year 3 upwards has one timetabled lesson of French a week. Juniors follow 'La Jolie Ronde' course. Each child has his or her own workbook and is encouraged to personalise the book by adding a photograph (or self-portrait!) Everyone gets involved in lessons - learning simple rhymes and songs, playing word games and performing role-plays. Songs, role- plays and puzzles are printed at the back of the workbooks. Each stage of the course is accompanied by a specially produced CD and there are also IWB activities available.
"I have been doing French for four years. French is a fun, exciting, playful lesson that is also important. It will help me when I'm older." (Solomon Clarke, Year 5)
"French is a great lesson for kids that want to learn a language. We do great things-we do singing and we have books that we go through every lesson" (Jahnvi Patel, Year 5)
"I feel very grateful to have the opportunity to learn French. It is a very complicated language, but you will get the hang of it with Madame Trevelyan" (Ryan Lallie, Year 5)
