Hydesville Tower School

The Family School

Early Years

Welcome to our Nursery :

The Nursery has built a strong reputation for our continuation and achieving indvidual excellence for each child that attends.

Children are invited to join our Nursery from the age of three years. Here at Hydesville Nursery we have an excellent staff - child ratio working within a keyworker system where each and every child who attends are treated as an individual.

The Nursery is special. We are fully part of the school and we are a teaching Nursery. The Nursery staff provide an excellent atmosphere for all the children to be able to develop all the essential skills, such as language developent, pencil control, letter and number recognition, this is done by working through all the learning areas.

  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy.
  • Language and Literacy.
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World.
  • Creative Development.
  • Physical Development.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development.

We are a community built upon shared values of respect, fairness and hard work. Pupils are encouraged to develop concentration and to enjoy the rewards of working hard within such a friendly environment.

We begin to develop every child's essential needs these include reading, writing and numeracy skills alongside promoting confidence, self-discipline, sef-esteem, independence and initiative.

There is still plenty of time to play as less strucutred sessions are also provided within the daily routine to offer opportunities for dancing, music, singing, and many more exciting activities.

Pupils are encouraged from an early age to care for and respect one and other. A structure is in place within the Nursery Department, using a "friendship Stop" (witihin the playground) to recognise others pastoral needs, and awards are made for good playground behaviour.

In the Nursery we follow "The Golden Rules"

  •  We are gentle - We don't hurt others
  • We are kind and helpful - We don't hurt anybody's feelings
  • We listen - We don't interrupt
  • We are honest - We don't cover up the truth
  • We work hard - We don't waste our own or others time
  • We look after property - We don't damage or waste things

Reward charts are used within the Nursery department to acknowledge pupil attainment for both curricular and extra-curricular activities, including those for following the "Golden rules" certificates are presented for these rewards at weekly assemblies, parents are invitied to attend these every friday morning 9:30am - 10:00am.

A healthy eating policy is also delivered within the Nursery and is supported by all staff, parents, and lunchtime caterers and most importantly by the children who attend.

The learning needs of individual children are recognised through regular staff meetings where information is shared, notably on transfer between classes, and particularly in the case of children moving from transition class Nursery to Reception.

Events within the Nursery year :

Christmas is a wonderful time of year within the Nursery, with visits from Santa, Chester the clown and trips to the theatre.

Each year the Nursery also performs a Nativity Play with the Reception class.

Our Easter term ends with an Easter hat parade which is quite spectacular and is watched by many parents and grandparents.

The Summer term is always busy with trips out of school, this year the Nursery trecked out to Telford wonderland where they enjoyed the day thoroughly by seeing the fairy tale characters, to taking a ride on the rides.

Towards the end of June we also have the Summer fete run by the PTA, here we provide a range of stalls from face painting, fancy dress parade, toy store, to refreshments and also a uniform stall.

Within the Nursery and Infant department we also have take part in a joint sports day, where parents are also involved with this by being very competive and taking part in the mom's and dad's race. This years event was enjoyed by all who took part and also by those who supported the event.

The summer term comes to an end with an end of term sing-along, where parents are invited to see us all perform a song around a theme. This years theme is "Holidays" Nursery song is "The sun has got his hat on. " Even the staff entertain the parents and children by getting together to perform.
