Assessment
The primary purpose of pupil assessment is to enable the learning for each individual to progress at their optimum rate. Assessment enables children to show what they can do and is an integral part of the learning process. Children's progress is assessed on a daily basis through observations and verbal feedback. Parents are informed of their child's progress through parents' evening consultations and written reports in December and July
Record keeping and progress in Reception
Reception activities and lessons work towards the Early Years Foundation Stage learning goals through a practical, and at times structured approach to the curriculum. Observations and records of the children's learning are collated regularly throughout the year to form their individual Foundation Stage Profile. This helps the teacher to address individual needs and plan accordingly. The teachers also keep records of the books the children read and the progress they make.
Record keeping and progress in Years 1 and 2
The children are assessed in Maths, English and Science every half term. The teachers use these records to observe each child's progress and to help the children with their individual targets. The teachers keep records of the books the children read and the progress they make, and also the marks of weekly spelling and mental maths tests. The children are also tested in May by completing the NFER tests which are carried out from Year 1 to Year 5. These marks and assessments are passed onto the next teacher to inform them about each individual child's progress.
